The renovation of Break Sokos Hotel Vuokatti, located in Sotkamo, was completed in early 2025. Franz was responsible for the entire interior architecture of the renovation, which included 144 variously styled hotel rooms, hotel corridors, changes to fitness areas reconfigured as public sauna facilities, a children's playroom, and a conference center situated on the third floor.
The design concept aimed to efficiently utilize the existing structures and furnishings of the hotel, known for active leisure in Vuokatti, while enhancing the comfort and functionality of the spaces to better suit the current user profile. From the last renovation 15 years ago, some elements were preserved, including the frames of the storage furniture in the rooms and nearly all headboards, which were updated to be more contemporary both in appearance and functionality.
By upgrading the lighting and lighting control systems, the renovation achieved better energy efficiency. Sustainability was a core principle of the project from the outset, and the hotel received a Green Key certification upon completion of the renovation.
The hotel’s new aesthetic drew strong inspiration from the surrounding nature and pine forests, which is reflected in the views accessible from all hotel rooms and spaces. The lighting design accounted for variations throughout different seasons and times of the day to enhance the overall ambiance.
