After opening in August 2024, Solo Sokos Hotel Pier4 brought a completely new kind of hotel experience to Katajanokka, Helsinki. The building is made of Finnish and Swedish wood, and is completely unique in the field of Finnish architecture in terms of its modern architecture.

The most important starting point for the design of the hotel's premises was to create spaces for relaxation by the sea, in the middle of a bustling city. The main role in the rooms is the views; on one side of the building, the large floor-to-ceiling windows open up to a beautiful open sea view, and on the other side, a calming historical city and park landscape. In most of the rooms on the sea side, the bed is placed directly facing the sea, from where you can admire the beautiful seascape, as well as watch the departing and arriving sea traffic. In addition, some of the rooms face the building's birch yard, where you can admire the Finnish forest vegetation.

The rooms on different sides of the building also have different themes. On the sea side, the theme is Tyyni - where, as the name suggests, the light and soothing tone world creates a moment of Tranquility by the seascape. The city-side and courtyard rooms are themed Valkama – a sheltered marina with a slightly deeper and more atmospheric tone palette, bringing a touch of atmosphere from the red-bricked old buildings of Katajanokka.

The planning also took into account the hotel's goal to be the most climate-responsible hotel in Finland, which can be seen, e.g. in sustainable and ecological material choices and LEED classifications of aquatic furniture. The surfaces and furniture wanted to use a lot of genuine and natural, as well as haptic materials such as coarse granite stone, solid wood, unpainted metal. We chose different hand-touchable textures for the textiles. There are 164 rooms in the hotel on four floors.

In addition to the hotel rooms, Franz designed the hotel's restaurant, roof terrace bar, conference facilities and gym/wellness and sauna facilities. Time-lasting and ecological solutions have also been used in the materials of the common spaces and a peaceful atmosphere has been created in the spaces, which continues the calming path from the rooms to all the hotel's spaces.
